What benefits can I expect?
Every situation is different and some people will feel immediate benefit, often relief, from being listened to and feeling understood within a professional and confidential setting. Others will need longer, especially if their difficulties have been present for some time and they've not had the opportunity or felt ready to talk about them with someone they can trust. Much depends on the relationship they build with the counsellor, research showing that this is more important than the kind of therapy practised. Over time, many people experience the benefits already described such as feeling stronger and more connected to the world, helping them to live life more fully and authentically, having better relationships with others as well as with themselves.
How do I know my therapist is properly qualified?
Your counsellor or therapist should be registered as a member, ideally an accredited practitioner, with one of the UK's professional organisations such as the BACP or UKCP. You can ask your therapist which professional body he/she is registered with and you can check with that organisation that your therapist is currently a member and what level of membership they have. As this Government ruled out statutory regulation in this area it encouraged the setting up of a quality assurance scheme to approve voluntary registers. So now the BACP has a register, monitored by the Professional Standards Authority: you can check to see if you therapist is on it and at what level: www.bacpregister.co.uk.

How long do sessions last and how long will I need to come for?
Sessions are weekly and last for 50 minutes.
As explained above how long therapy continues depends on every individual and situation - we can discuss this when we meet.
When and how do I need to pay?
After the first therapy session I invoice monthly and these can be paid by cash, cheque or bank transfer.
What happens if I need to cancel a session?
I will explain the cancellation policy when we meet.
